Today the journey around Iceland begins. We head out to Snæfellsnes peninsula, a truly amazing place where we will find many of Iceland’s unique features in a dramatic landscape. Among places we visit are Arnarstapi and Kirkjufell.

We continue to north of Iceland to Skagafjörður fjord where history lays everywhere surrounded with beautiful nature. The area is famous for horse breeding. We use the opportunity to visit Glaumbær museum where we learn about how the Icelanders lived back in the old days. We stay for the night in this fjord where the sunsets are one of the most beautiful in Iceland.

We travel by the coastline around Tröllaskagi Peninsula with a view over the Atlantic Ocean, passing small fishing villages. On the way we stop at the award winning Siglufjörður Herring Museum. We continue to Akureyri, the biggest city outside of the capital area and then further east to the beautiful Waterfall Godafoss.

Lake Mývatn is an amazing area of extreme contrasts, bird life, flora, geothermal activity, geology and saga. It is by many considered the most beautiful and at the same time the most catastrophic place in Iceland. We spend the day exploring these wonders like Dimmuborgir Lava Fields, Hverir Geothermal area and Mývatn Nature Baths. In the afternoon we head over to the Eastfjords of Iceland.

On a scenic route we drive along the coastline of the Eastern Fjords through small charming villages. Among villages we visit is Fáskrúðsfjörður village is known for its French heritage and Höfn for delicious lobster.

Today we have the opportunity of taking in the amazing Glacier Lagoon, a very popular destination in Iceland. As we drive along the south coast with the huge glacier on one side and the black sand desert on the other we explore places such as Skaftafell National Park, an oasis in between Glaciers. We end the day by Vík Village with it’s black sand beaches and terrific cliffs.

We continue along the popular South Coast exploring waterfalls such as Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss. The day ends in the capital of Iceland where you have the option of dining out at one of Reykjavík many diverse restaurants.

Our first stop is at Þingvellir National Park where the Icelandic parliament Alþingi was established in the year 930 AD. It is part of the Golden Circle along with Geysir hot spring area and Gullfoss Waterfall. A must see on every trip to Iceland. The latter part of the day, and the evening is free for city exploring in downtown Reykjavík.
