Flightseeing: Arctic Circle Express

Visit Grímsey Island and Cross the Arctic Circle

Fly across the Arctic Circle and get proof!   This tour takes you from Akureyri towards Grímsey Island, the vanguard of Iceland to the north.

Grímsey Island is a mere 30 minutes flight from Akureyri,  with beautiful scenery on the way and a fair chance to see whales (Humpback whales and even Blue whales) en-route, in addition to the spectacular mountain range of Tröllaskagi Peninsula.
On arrival to the island you will get the chance to experience the natural habitat of puffins and varied bird life. You also cross the Arctic Circle, that crosses the Island, and you receive your “Arctic Circle Crossing” badge. Grímsey Island is one of the last remaining true Icelandic fishing villages and of course the offer a sample of traditional Icelandic cuisine.  It is served by local villagers and timed just before before heading back to the mainland (Akureyri).
