Stretching out into the ocean as a part of west Iceland, this peninsula has a bit of everything that you can find elsewhere in Iceland. Throughout much of our journey, we will have views of the Snæfellsjokull glacier and be surrounded by the natural beauty of high mountains and fjords. There are fabulous coastal roads, and surreal landscapes of lava fields and mountains offering an amazing array of geological features.
We spend the day exploring the coastline with visits to the tiny hamlet of Arnarstapi. There we will see stunning sea cliffs and during the summer season, nesting bird colonies. Along the coast, we spend time exploring the black sand beaches and lava stacks at Djupalon. We will stop at one of the small fishing villages hiding in sheltered bays surrounded by mountains. We will visit the famous Kirkjufell mountain and the pretty waterfall of Kirkjufellsfoss.
Much of the attraction of Snæfellsnes lies in the natural history of the area and we may be lucky enough to see seals, large bird colonies, and possibly even whales from the shoreline. As a result, the day might include other short stops depending on what wildlife we will come across. These extra stops will be at the discretion of your guide on the day, but having this flexibility makes the tour exciting and slightly different each time.
