Direct Flights to Iceland

Getting to Iceland is very easy. Over 10 Airlines fly directly to Iceland from all over Europe and North America throughout the whole year, and over 20 more have scheduled flights during the summer. Since Iceland is in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, flights are quite affordable from either side of the ocean. 99% of all flights arrive at Keflavik Airport (also known as Reykjavik Intl Airport).

Getting from the Airport to North Iceland

There are a few ways to get from KEF Airport to North Iceland. The fastest way is via direct flight to Akureyri Domestic Airport with Air IcelandAir Iceland also offers daily flights from Reykjavik Domestic Airport. Direct Flights to North Iceland are available all year round

From November 2025 to March 2026, easyJet will operate flights from both London Gatwick and Manchester Airport to Akureyri. These flights are available twice a week, providing a new opportunity to explore Iceland during the winter season. If you land at Keflavík Airport, domestic flights from Reykjavík Airport with Icelandair are a convenient option for reaching North Iceland, with several daily departures. During summer 2025, Edelweiss will offer direct flights from Zurich to Akureyri, operating weekly from June through August. Additionally, two travel agencies will provide packages that include direct flights to North Iceland in 2025: Kontiki from Zurich and Voigt Travel from Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

Cruises to North Iceland

For those seeking a more leisurely journey, cruises are a great way to explore North Iceland. Several cruise lines include stops in Akureyri. Depending on the itinerary, these cruises offer the opportunity to experience Iceland from the sea while giving you a day or two to explore the vibrant towns and natural attractions in the north.

Car Rentals

There are many rental agencies in Iceland, and it’s best to book your car in advance, especially during the busy summer months (June-August).
Rental services are available at Keflavik International Airport or in larger cities like Reykjavík and Akureyri as well. International companies like Europcar and local companies like Akureyri rent a car are provide excellent service all year round.

Getting from The Airport to Reykjavík City

From there you can either take the Flybus or book a handy and affordable direct airport transfer, or take a taxi.
